Notes: NOT a steam engine (no water), NOT a Stirling (flame yes, but different principle of operation). This chunky model is beautifully made by PM Research and operates off a strategically placed flame that aligns with a port in the cylinder wall. With each stroke of the piston, a small hatch opens and closes on that cylinder wall letting the flame get sucked into the cylinder...closed off again that heated air expands and pushes piston only to repeat the cycle. Very lovely thumping sound when operating and a visual delight as well. It is one of my engines I like to run outdoors on a cold nite in the dark...looks a bit like you are staring into a blast furnace each time the flame gets sucked into the cylinder.
